Sue is the Executive Director of Career Services at the University of Denver. Although her main duties revolve around keeping the big-picture operations running smoothly, Sue tells us she still finds the most pleasure out of the relationships she forms with the students. It is immensely gratifying to to Sue and everyone in the career services office to guide students to find their passion in life!

>> My name is Sue Hinkin and I'm Executive Director of Career Services at the University of Denver and we have a whole variety of career services, offices one for the business school and we have Korbel School of International Studies and we also have a law school and a graduate school and so on. So I think my main thrust of what I do is really try to get everybody to work together on behalf of our students; we do a lot of outreach to employers we don't just sit and wait for them to call us, we are out visiting and trying to develop relationships so that we can have wonderful opportunities for interns and jobs and, you know, the whole array of opportunities for students. So that's a lot of what I do, we have events, we have career fairs. I do a little bit of career advising, but mostly administering all the different programs we have in different areas of career services which is data collection, really figuring out who's doing what once the graduate and how long it's taking them to get there and also again events and developing relationships with employers and really leveraging the resources we have together. Well an undergraduate walks in not knowing what they want to do I love that, I just really enjoy that because the opportunity to talk with students and to look at all the different things that they did growing up it really gives you a lot of clues as what that student might be interested in, and so that's the beginning of the conversation, you know, what do you do? What's fun for you? What's interesting? And they try to fit in to a job and I don't care if it's in a job, I think don't care if it's in a job, I think they spent their youth, you know, beach combing and picking up shells, you know, that's a clue to me so I just want to know everything that they've done and then I started thinking about some opportunities that would help them hone in on what it is that they might want to do some things like job shadowing or internships or part-time jobs or who they should they should talk with or a network I think I could help them out with, so that's really where I begin with them.
