Jason Dimitiris ’92 is the General Counsel for Florida’s Department of Management Services. The department is responsible for the business services for all of the state agencies in Florida and Jason’s team is responsible for both reactionary and proactive legal support.

>> My name is Jason Emilios Dimitris. And I'm the General Counsel at the Florida Department of Management Services. The Florida Department of Management Services is one of the governor's agencies in the State of Florida. And we're responsible, essentially, for the business services for all the state agencies of Florida. So it includes some of the business operations like human resources. Telecommunications. Real estate. Some of those services. Well, we, as a legal office, help with all of the functions of the entire department. So when legal issues arise in those different areas that I mentioned, then we have to be responsive to assist with those issues. But we also do take a proactive approach. And try to help advise to avoid any future problems with the law. Or any of our strategies as a department as a whole. Well, one of the divisions that we work with is the Division of Real Estate. So you can imagine there's contracting issues that come up. And different types of real estate issues that come up. Another division we work with is telecommunications. And there are complex areas of the law that deal with those issues. And we also work in human resources for all the state agencies. So there's areas of the law that we have to be responsive in that area too. Well, it is, there are differences. But I think that some private sector jobs would be similar. Some would be very different. So there's quite a wide range. We do a lot of legal work that somebody in the private sector would do similar types of work. There's definitely a big team mentality in our approach to our legal work. And I think that in the private sector it's more difficult to find a team approach on this level. And also our focus on mentoring and developing talent in newer lawyers through the experiences and background of some lawyers who have been working in the field for a longer time. So we have certain benefits that I think we're able to offer to our team that a private legal office wouldn't have the abilities to offer.
